Summer Street and the phone number is 638-6152.  Mr. Bobby Bird is the Public Works Superintendent.  The Town also owns and operates jointly with Greene County, a solid waste transfer station, a Class IV Demolition landfill, composting and mulching operation and tire disposal facility located at 1555 Old Stage Rd.  The scale house phone number is 639-4416 or you may reach Dennis Wright, the Transfer Station/Demolition Landfill Superintendent at 639-3011.  Hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. daily. There are numerous blue newspaper recycling bins located throughout the Town.  Town of Greeneville residents are encouraged to utilize the Greene County Convenience Centers, which accept the following items for recycling: cardboard, green, brown and clear glass, aluminum cans, batteries, and used oil. The locations of the convenience centers can be found in the current phone book under the Greene County listing.

The Public Works Department oversees drainage and engineering issues within the town limits.  Development plans are reviewed by this office to insure adequate drainage, roadway sight distance, traffic control, parking, etc.  Permits are issued for drive approaches, street cuts, grading, and other types of work performed on town streets or in right-of-ways.

Public Works Street Division
The Street Division is responsible for roadway maintenance on town owned streets, as well as drainage ditches, storm drains and storm  pipe in town right-of-ways and easements.  The Division has a street sweeper and one flusher truck for street cleaning and provides snow and ice removal during inclement weather.  Street signage, leaf collection, mowing, and construction of small drainage projects are a few of the responsibilities of the Street Division.  The Street Division provides an annual leaf collection in the fall (usually late October and November).  Residents can rake their leaves out to the curb and leaf vacuums will come by to collect them.  This is done on a schedule determined by the Public Works Department and published in the local newspaper during leaf collection season.
